Office for Windows 10 – universal and device specific apps are coming!!
Wow!! Great news from the Office news front not only a new Office version but also an universal apps version are coming in 2015 / 2016.
Office will be named 2016, but it’s coming in 2015, 2 years for a new version is a little quick for most Microsoft Enterprise customers 🙂
What’s different?
The universal apps are a little different from the device specific versions, major differences are:
- Lack of editing functionality in universal apps
- No more then one document/worksheet/presentation editing at once
- Outlook Calendar and Outlook Mail seperate apps
- Touch screen optimized
- Common functions have a single or simplified menu, for instance:
- header and footer editing,
- Word 2013 -> 3 ways of accomplishing this task
- Office for Windows 10 -> 1 button, and the pagenumber button only appears when you are editing the header or footer 🙂
- charts, much less options
- header and footer editing,
A clear change in Microsoft Office thus, a free (less featured) version and a full featured payed version.
Universal apps are nice if the experience and accessibility across multiple devices is the same, and it looks like Microsoft is heading into that direction.
Want to try the different preview apps (Windows 10 Technical Preview needed), here is a link to Word Preview.
Don’t forget the EULA 🙂
At last, a link to the First look at Office for Windows 10 YouTube video of Office Mechanics, the new video series from Microsoft.
