Turn off Office Online
Today (2014-10-30) a customer asked if it is possible to turn off the Office Online service in an Office 365 Enterprise E3 license assigned to a user.
Conclusion: no you can’t.
At the sitecollection level or document library level it is possible to direct the opening or editing of a document towards a client application.
At license level you can turn on or off whatever you want, no change 🙁
Current situation (without extra settings at sitecollection or document library level):
– new document link on list view web part: word online is used
– select document in a list view web part: word online is used
– document editing via the 3 dots … : word is used
– document editing in browser: word online is used
– document editing via ribbon: word is used
– new document via ribbon: word is used
new situation (after activating feature at sitecollection level):
– new document link on list view web part: word online is used!!!!
– select document in a list view web part: word is used -> nice change MS!
